My New Favorite Simple Overnight/Heatless Curls.

I recently got a butterfly cut! But I have very straight hair so you can’t normally see the layers all that well. I have also always been a big fan of heatless curls because I had a terrible curling iron for a very long time. When I do heat less curls I always have to let my hair dry like 90% of the way or it will still be wet in the morning.

I separate out my bangs so I can make a single pin curl with them, I find this works the best to give my curls volume.

Then I do 4 mini buns on each side of my head twisting away from my face. I like doing it this way since it’s much faster than pin curling multiple layers and I get pretty similar results. All in all, it takes like 10 minutes.

Then you just pull the buns down and use your fingers to separate the curls. I split my bang curl in half.

After that I just brush them until they look “correct”

At first it’s a little poofy but it falls down into smoother curls pretty quickly. This is the exact thing I did for the pictures in the pro-wrestling post.

Managing Hair Breakage

Here’s a general guide I had previously written on protecting hair for a friend; for reference I have type 1A hair and since I do mermaiding I do have some extra things I do to take care of it so it looks nice in and out of the water. Something which has become much easier since I decided to stop dyeing my hair and embrace the natural color.

One thing that helped me a lot was also finding the right shampoo and conditioner for me. I now swear by the L’Oreal total repair 5 line as it’s in my budget and does everything I need it to.

On to the guide!

Managing Breakage

  • Hair oil at the very tips of your hair can help with breakage if you have a dry hair type (or are mean to your hair like me) . If you do this daily use a light hand as it can easily build up if you have a hair washing schedule of washing your hair every few days or so. Lightly in this case means getting the tips of your fingers saturated with the oil and then gently running it through your hair at the ends. It should just get sucked into your hair, if you can see it you have put too much on. I recommend this method more for hair that is already damaged that you don’t want to cut off.
  • A better way of preventing damage and you have to be less careful with it is using a daily leave in conditioner. To use one you need to very lightly dampen your hair and then use whatever you would normally use for regular conditioner and run it through the ends. Do not put it on your scalp. It will get stuck there and you will have scalp acne. Which is not fun. (Don’t ask me how I know this 😅)
  • Loose braids are a great protective style to prevent tangles if you are going to be active during a day. Braids are one of the most gentle hairstyles for hair. More tangles = more knots = more breakage.  I’ll link some videos in the styling section of this. You already seem to naturally not wear your hair too tightly when you put it up but tight ponytails and buns can prevent tangles at the ends of your hair but will cause breakage closer to the scalp.
  • At some point your ends may be a lost cause and you’ll need a trim. If you can afford it going to the salon is your best bet, but as someone who trims their own hair here are some tips for it! Do not cut your hair with normal scissors, purchasing even a cheap pair of hair scissors will make a huge difference. Those scissors are specifically designed to not damage hair. Cut a small piece of your hair in the front to use as a guide, cut with you scissors vertically not horizontally so you won’t get weird shelf looking cuts. Then use a comb holding the piece you just cut and the next section of your hair you want to trim and use the comb to make sure it’s even, do this all the way around your hair. This is easier with long hair, also know it will not be 100% even, most people will not notice.
  • If you are going to be having to subject your hair to chlorine, salt water etc. this is a time you can go crazy with the hair oil to make a protective barrier between your hair and the water, the damaging effect will attack the oil not your hair. Just be sure to wash your hair as soon as you can after the fact.
  • Everyone’s hair type is different so you may need to adjust as you go, if something seems to make it worse or cause problems readjust and try something different

What to Bring for location based photoshoots

I have been mostly taking my Insta photos from home this winter but now that there’s warmer weather I’ve been going out to shoot on different locations recently! Here’s what to bring on a location based photoshoot

1.) A water bottle and some snacks

Having water and little bit of food will help you keep going if you need to do a longer shoot

2.) Appropriate weather clothing

Even if you’re shooting a dress in the winter you’ll be grateful for having a jacket you can throw on between shots

3.) Backup Batteries

The outdoors can do strange things to tech you’ll be happy you brought them

4.) Any of your on the go lighting

It can be hard to find the perfect light so if you have stuff that works well on the go bring it along

5.) Some music!

If you’re in a place that’s conducive for it having some music is a great way to relax and get into the groove!

5 Tips for Securing a Wig without getting a headache

Not me just a pretty stock photo

🎀 Try using flat hairstyles underneath the wig like French braids instead of buns

🎀 Avoid using the elastic clasp in the back if you are going to be wearing your wig for a long time

🎀 Use wig glue instead of pins to secure your wig

🎀 Do a few test runs with your wig before the event you’re planning on using it for (meetup, convention, tea party, etc.)

🎀 Use a mesh wig cap, ( I tend to find that these have more give to them and don’t squeeze my head so tightly)

Altering Skirt (Progress Pics!)

I seam ripped off the waist band (this is the love Nadia skirt from bodyline)

Since I had enough length in the skirt I cut one inch off the top and started making panels with them in order to not have to use a zipper anymore

This is still a work in progress I need to seam rip and align the final seam again but then I’ll update with a pic of me wearing the skirt!

Tips on How to Wear EGL to Work

Now your mileage may vary on this one but these are ways I have seen that have made it possible for me to wear Lolita to work with little issue

1.) Blouse and Skirt coords are your best friend

People seem to be a lot more accepting of blouse and skirt coords at work! I think it might be because it makes it a bit more casual and approachable

2.) Keep Headpieces small or opt to use hairstyles and small bows

This helps reign in how in your face the style can be while retaining the elegance

3.) Updo’s if you have long hair instantly make your coords look more professional

I find that updos are great and tend to keep better throughout the day anyways

4.) In more conservative office environments Classic Lolita is usually a safe bet

5.) Wear sensible shoes

Know what your job is and be sure to wear appropriate shoes, if you sit at a desk all day tea parties may be just fine, but if you have to get up a lot like I do you may want to stick to flats or well kept sneakers that match your outfit (my american is showing)

6.) Keep accessories minimal

Same idea as your hair in this instance your almost trying to find a cross between casual Lolita and office wear to wear to work, a bit more formal than wearing a cutsew and skirt but not OTT, earrings and a necklace are usually a safe bet

7.) Be grateful our fashion fits most dress codes!

So it depends on the taste in your office but thankfully a fashion that has you cover your shoulders and wear knee length skirts is not going to break any modesty codes it just may offend some sensibilities, obviously your work is more important than having to wear this fashion everyday but these are some tips that I’ve found that help!

Phone Decoden!

I tried decodening for the first time on my phone case and I LOVE it!! It’s so cute and although somewhat intimidating incredibly easy to do as long as you have somewhat of a roll with it kind of attitude, I did my phone entirely with my collection of broken jewelry pieces and gems from the dollar store and it came out incredibly cute! Here’s the supplies I used to do mine

1.) Silicone Caulk

2.) dessert piping bag and star tip

3.) Phone Case

4.) Broken jewelry for cabochons

5.)Dollar store gems

I first used the silicone in the piping bag to make “frosting” dots all over the case after sanding it to rough it up enough for it to stick, then simply stuck my desired pieces in! I will say that with how thick I laid the silicone on it took about 2 days to dry so if you’re going for a similar look keep that in mind

How to Wash a Brand Lolita Fashion Dress

1.) Use a damp paper product and then a dry paper product rubbed on the wet spot and test all of the different colors of your dress to see if any colors run, if they do don’t continue,

2.) Full a tub or basin with water as cold as you can get it

3.) Add a little bit of mild detergent

4.) Dip the dress into the tub

5.) Leave the dress in there for no more than 5 minutes only lightly swishing the water

6.) Drain the basin or tub, and fill with clean water as cold as you can get it

7.) Dip the dress into the basin or tub until the water that drips off is no longer sudsy

8.) Hang the dress to dry Please try this method at your own risk!
