Tips on How to Wear EGL to Work

Now your mileage may vary on this one but these are ways I have seen that have made it possible for me to wear Lolita to work with little issue

1.) Blouse and Skirt coords are your best friend

People seem to be a lot more accepting of blouse and skirt coords at work! I think it might be because it makes it a bit more casual and approachable

2.) Keep Headpieces small or opt to use hairstyles and small bows

This helps reign in how in your face the style can be while retaining the elegance

3.) Updo’s if you have long hair instantly make your coords look more professional

I find that updos are great and tend to keep better throughout the day anyways

4.) In more conservative office environments Classic Lolita is usually a safe bet

5.) Wear sensible shoes

Know what your job is and be sure to wear appropriate shoes, if you sit at a desk all day tea parties may be just fine, but if you have to get up a lot like I do you may want to stick to flats or well kept sneakers that match your outfit (my american is showing)

6.) Keep accessories minimal

Same idea as your hair in this instance your almost trying to find a cross between casual Lolita and office wear to wear to work, a bit more formal than wearing a cutsew and skirt but not OTT, earrings and a necklace are usually a safe bet

7.) Be grateful our fashion fits most dress codes!

So it depends on the taste in your office but thankfully a fashion that has you cover your shoulders and wear knee length skirts is not going to break any modesty codes it just may offend some sensibilities, obviously your work is more important than having to wear this fashion everyday but these are some tips that I’ve found that help!

How to Wash a Brand Lolita Fashion Dress

1.) Use a damp paper product and then a dry paper product rubbed on the wet spot and test all of the different colors of your dress to see if any colors run, if they do don’t continue,

2.) Full a tub or basin with water as cold as you can get it

3.) Add a little bit of mild detergent

4.) Dip the dress into the tub

5.) Leave the dress in there for no more than 5 minutes only lightly swishing the water

6.) Drain the basin or tub, and fill with clean water as cold as you can get it

7.) Dip the dress into the basin or tub until the water that drips off is no longer sudsy

8.) Hang the dress to dry Please try this method at your own risk!

Etiquette for Photoshoots in Cemeteries

It’s that time of year where the spooky season is here and we celebrate spirits and death. You may be considering doing a fashion or cosplay shoot in a cemetery. There seems to be varied opinions on whether you should do this at all. It is up to your own discretion whether or not you wish to participate in this activity. Here are some tips for respectfully conducting filming or a photoshoot in a graveyard.

  • Don’t sit, lean, or prop up equipment on any gravestones or monuments
  • If there is a funeral going on or a large amount of mourners that day, reschedule.
  • Remove or blur out any names that are visible on graves in the shot. Avoid shooting near newer gravestones
  • Leave the area better than you arrived, take some time to pick up any litter you may see and be sure not to damage anything that was already there.
  • If you are asked by anyone who is there at the time to stop what you are doing and leave, do not argue and respect their wishes. This is first and foremost a place to mourn.
  • Be prepared for any photos you use to potentially be controversial if you post to social media, be prepared for that and be able to respond to concerns with grace.
  • Don’t take anything from the cemetery
  • Be sure you know the hours that it is open for visitors and only go during those hours
  • Have fun and be safe!

Clothing Care Advice from Someone who struggles to care for their closet

I have ADHD something I’m pretty open about on my social media but this is something that makes caring for my Lolita clothes pretty difficult from time to time and I wanted to share practical advice for making your life easier when you are taking care of your Lolita fashion clothes

1.) Have two laundry baskets, one for clothes that can go through the washer no problem and one for handwash only clothing that way you don’t accidentally ruin petticoats or brand

2.) Don’t be afraid of the washer for more sturdy pieces, but when in doubt line dry.

3.) On that note, have a place where you can easily hang things to dry, I’m blessed to have a porch with a clothesline but if you don’t have that invest in a drying rack that you can set next to a sunny window

4.) Get a clothing steamer, mini iron and ironing board and be sure to store it near your wardrobe so you will actually use it

5.) Pick one day of the week to accomplish hand washing tasks and stick to it that way your brand doesn’t sit in a ball for weeks on end

6.) Don’t be afraid to go professional with more tricky pieces

10 Tips for Surviving the Summer Heat in Lolita Fashion for Beginners

It’s a bit late in the summer for this post but as August is often the hottest month of the year where I live, I don’t think it is too late. Here’s a list of tips I have found that help me in the summer in lolita fashion

1.) Use your natural hair

Wigs are very fashionable in lolita fashion especially for OTT sweet coords, however all that extra hair can add a lot more heat to your head. This could be a great time to experiment with using your own hair and learning new hairstyles. If you must wear a wig, I recommend using a mesh wig cap and experimenting with shorter styles like a bob or a wig with shorter clip in ponytails to keep excess hair off your neck and excess bulk

2.) Use more natural makeup looks and a good setting spray

This can help prevent a heavy caked on feeling when your makeup starts to melt off your face. A good heavy duty setting spray can also help keep your makeup in place and from smudging when it starts to melt. Plus it’s harder to smudge if you have less on, colors closer to your skin tone are less noticeable when they start to smudge or fade.

3.) Trade a fluffy petticoat for a hoop skirt

I bought a short hoop skirt designed for lolita fashion this summer and it is one of the best purchases I have made. It has kept wearing lolita an option for many more days throughout this summer and helps keep the fabric off your legs just as much as a petticoat.

4.) Short frilly socks!

I’m usually a fan of these anyways but shorter socks or very light tights will help keep your legs from roasting! Knee highs vary in material but I always find I feel much hotter when they are on instead of shorter socks in the summer

5.) Short sleeve cotton blouses or chiffon blouses

I sadly don’t have the pleasure of owning on of those cute frilly chiffon stretch blouses yet but I imagine they are also an option that can help you beat the heat. Right now I own 3 short sleeve bodyline cotton blouses and they are my go to for the summer.

6.) Drink Water

This is just a general life tip but it is even more important wearing lolita although there are ways to stay cooler it is inherently going to be more hot than if you were to wear a crop top and shorts. Make sure not to get dehydrated and drink a bit more water than you normally would

7.) Wear more coords with skirts and blouses

This helps minimize the layers on different parts of your body, it only does this by a little bit but I have found that it does help. Alternatively you could try a blouseless coord, although I myself have not been so brave

8.) Wear an Undershirt

This one seems to contradict the top but this is more to save the integrity of your clothing. It’s a true fact that when it gets hot people tend to sweat and this could spell trouble for any of your light colored clothing. The undershirt will help absorb the sweat and keep there from being any embarrassing sweat stains

9.) Keep accessories to a minimum

Obviously a good lolita coord will require some basic accessories but in trying to beat the heat less is more. The less items you have on your body the less ways your body heat gets trapped

10.) Stay Safe

These are a few of my own tips but you should know your own limits. Lolita is not worth getting heat exhaustion or a heat stroke. You can always wear a coord for a few hours and change. If it truly is too hot that day, take a flatlay pic and look forward to the next day you’re able to wear it safely.

5 Tips for Busty Lolitas

I have a 34H cup chest currently so it makes it pretty difficult to find dresses and blouses in my size and have them flatter me. So if you are also in this boat, here’s some advice!

I am a bit like Alice, I give myself very good advice but I very seldom follow it. So if there is a dress you love, and you like how it looks, rock it! This is just what I find works best when I feel like putting in the extra effort.

1.) Bodices are your friend

I find the extra space allowed by the more 3 dimensional nature of the bodice block has created my most flattering and comfortable dresses. Empire waists often cut my bust off at the bottom and creates a bit of a bizzare effect.

2.) A-Line silhouettes are the most flattering

This is an old standby that I found when searching for tips for busty lolitas when I was first starting out and it is definitely true if you’re trying to do as little compensating elsewhere. However, you shouldn’t limit yourself to only half of the silhouette! There are ways to be the frilly cupcake of your dreams

3.) For Bell Shaped silhouettes drop waists and thick waist bands are your friend

This is what I have found helps, having that break between the poof and your bust creates a better silhouette and helps accentuate your waist more. I’m a strong believer that you can wear whatever shapes or colors you want, you may just need to modify it if you desire to fit into the mainstream aesthetic.

4.) Buy clothes that will fit your measurements (Actually fits, not just fits by the grace of those above)

This is the part where I say I very seldom follow my own advice. This one is probably the hardest because it may limit your wardrobe and what you can buy realistically. However, you will feel so much better in clothes that fit and not having breathing make a button go flying. (I have actually had this experience)

5.) High Neck Blouses are pretty great

I struggle to have my normal necked ops not turn into accidental ero lolita coords due to the copious amounts of cleavage that will occur whether I want it to or not. Blouses that can button all the way to the neck and can be layered even under OPs will help extend your wardrobe greatly.
