How to Plan a Lolita Meet in 5(ish) steps

There’s nothing wrong with being a solo Lolita, but comms and therefore meet ups have been a pretty integral part of our community for quite some time! Many comms seem to develop a default “meet planner” and it’s good to be able to help them out, or become that planner! The more meets you help plan, the more meets there will be.

1.) Look at what there is to do in your area for your comm! There may be lots of tourist traps, restaurants, parks, recurring festivals museums, etc. One of my favorite parts of being a Lolita is getting to do and see all of the local things I would otherwise not be very likely to do in my area.

2.) Consider the mean budget of your comm, does your comm typically do extravagant meets or potlucks? If you mostly do potlucks, there is nothing wrong with having a more extravagant meet more aimed at the members with larger budgets but now that you will have smaller attendance and possibly make some members feel left out. I find that it gets easier to balance this as time goes on. Especially if you make sure to plan a range of meets. If you’re comm does do more extravagant meets, there may be some members who are very relieved if you do schedule something like a potluck! Nothing wrong with either kind of meet.

3.) Choose what you’d like to do based on the prior information! Other things you might want to consider is any accessibility issues your comm may have. It’s not uncommon for there to be a few members with disabilities in a Lolita comm and they will greatly appreciate it if you consider them in your planning.

4.) propose the meet to the group! Also, propose some dates, and be sure to set a date once a majority or consensus is reached. If you don’t the meet is liable to never happen. If you have the ability to help with transportation, offer a hand to those who live near you! It helps keep the meets alive. Double checking logistics also helps keep any last minute snafu’s from occurring. Always double check dates and if you need reservations.

5.) Have fun at the meet! Take pictures, talk with friends and enjoy whatever activity is at hand.

Kawaii Yoga Strap DIY

I’ve been working out more and have two yoga mats, one of them I lost the strap for and found a cute way of upcycling a scrap of lace I had.

Here’s the strap I sort of copied to make mine

I wrapped the elastic around the yoga mat to get the elastic length, then I laid my lace against the hanging part of the strap to get that length.

I hand stitched the two loops here.

I used a blanket stitch to keep it from fraying.

I sewed a square of stitches to join the lace and elastic, on the side of the raw edge of the lace I used a blanket stitch, and I used a backstitch on the other sides of the square.

My new yoga mat strap!

Lifestyle Lolita Ideas for Work (When you can’t wear the fashion)

The most obvious thing a lifestyle lolita could do to spruce up their work life is to wear lolita fashion to their job however for many of us this just isn’t something we can do! Especially at jobs that can afford us more of the fashion we love.

I actually wore lolita to work regularly at my lost job and I just got an upgrade in employment! For safety and practical reasons I no longer wear lolita to work but I find myself wearing it way more now that it’s reserved only for my leisure time.

1.) Plan cute office outfits/cute hair accessories

I love planning my outfits the night before as it helps me actually get my butt out of bed on time since I’m excited for a cute outfit. I love pretending that I’m trying to beat a love Nikki challenge on office wear while making sure that it will still fit my offices vibes. Pearls are always an elegant choice! Or simple clip in hair bows Depending on your job you may have limited freedom with uniforms so in that case a focus on accessories that make you feel good may fit better.

2.) Listen to Music that makes you happy on the way to work/at work

Depending on the nature of your work you may be able to listen to music at work, in that case get a cute pair of headphones and make a playlist that makes you feel happy like when you’re in one of your favorite outfits. If you aren’t able to listen to music at work you can listen on the commute.

3.) Pack cute food!

Learn about bento boxes, (which can be cute or elegant depending on your preference) or pack a cute country inspired picnic! Whatever matches your mood and aesthetic and bring food that’ll bring you joy when you open it up in the middle of your day

4.) Develop a Go To Makeup or Skincare Routine

Work on finding something that makes you feel good in the morning going to work! For those of you who wear makeup practicing a cute simple makeup that you love and can wear to work may help bring some of that joy and fashion to work, for those of you who don’t maybe some extra tlc for your skin will help you bring a bright spirit to work.

5.) Plan a Work Outfit and an Evening Lolita Outfit!

This is a little bit of a cheat since it’s not at work but I’ve been doing this recently and it’s so much fun! I have planned my work outfit and then an evening coord to change into when I get home. It’s been helping a lot mentally with a home and work life separation. Also, having day and evening clothes makes me feel like a fancy aristocrat.

Thank you so much for reading and I hope you got some ideas for your own life! Drink some water, eat good food, get some rest and have a wonderful day!

Clip in Bows are Underrated!

A pic from the crown center when I went to Paradiso

Ever since I cut my hair short I have fallen in love with clip in bows as “headpieces” I do still like KCs, Berets and Rectangle headdresses but I found that when I cut my hair to my chin they were eating my head and making the coord feel unbalanced. I had used flower crowns as headpieces in the past but it felt like it didn’t fit the vibes of some of my coords.

I also find it a cute way to hide flyaways as mentioned in a previous blog post!! Also, clip in bows can be used for more than just hair! I also really like using them like blouse bow ties to help balance colors in coord or dress something up

I tied in the shoe and wig color with a clip in bow in this coord

Also, clip in bows can be so cheap!! I get most of mine from the dollar store and have an amazing cost per wear for them. Accessories are honestly the best thing you can save on for Lolita Fashion, since the quality between a 1$ bow and a 10$ bow is pretty slim, the difference between a 20$ dress and a 100$ is vast.

I haven’t tried it yet and it might look weird but it just occurred to me I might also be able to use clip in bows as shoe clips as well for an OTT coord perhaps. I’ll be sure to share if I do!

Do you have any accessories you think are underrated?

4 Unusual Ways to Stay Warm During Outdoor Winter Meetups

1.) Heat Packs!

Back when I played hockey there was an infamously cold rink we would play at sometimes and my mom always got me these motion activated heat packs. They were usually pretty thin and if you knew you were going to be outside for a meetups you could put those packs into your boots and pockets pretty comfortably

2.) Fingerless Gloves

This is less about keeping warm and more about what’s practical for a Lolita meetup, lolitas love pictures and most devices nowadays need to have the pads of your fingers touch the screen to work. This way you won’t be having to take your gloves on and off when you’re helping out your friends with their pictures

3.) Fuzzy Bloomers

I think they’re adorable for loungewear and it’s good to get all the layers you can get to stay warm outside! Where I live right now it’s in the single digits (Fahrenheit) I think those paired with fleece lined tights or leggings and you’ll be all set

4.) Carry a Warm Drink or Soup With You

If you have a thermos it will double as a warmer for your hands and warm you up inside. If it’s not too inconvenient for your meet I think it would be a great way to be able to keep ensuring the cold.

5 Head Accessory Ideas for Lolitas with Short Hair

Having recently cut my hair pretty short, I thought about writing a post about how I’m approaching having shorter hair! Head accessories are a key part of lolita fashion and I see a lot of places where newbies will ask about short hair, here’s my two cents!

1.) Headbands

A classic accessory very easily found that won’t overwhelm your head now that there isn’t as much hair to balance it out, you could wear flower crowns, ones with little bows, plain ones, the options are endless

2.) Ponytail Clips

You like having short hair day to day but want to still be able to be OTT sometimes? I reccommend ponytail clips! Like the kind that come with Cosplay wigs, some sellers allow you to buy them individually.

3.) Berets

A personal favorite of mine! Also it seems as if they have been growing in popularity lately, a lot of indie brands will sell them in matching prints to the dresses they sell! I adore my spooky macarons beret from Lady Sloth

4.) Ribbons

Ribbons are super versatile and amazing for casual lolita, you could tie it into a headband, or braid it into your hair.

5.) Themed hair clips

You can use this to decorate a more plain headband or by themselves to make a look more coherent.

5 Tips for Posing for Outfit Photos

1.) Figure out what your favorite part of your outfit is then highlight it!! Above I really like the Princess sleeves on my blouse so I made sure to pose in a way that wouldn’t hide them. My shoes were the least important part of my outfit so I didn’t worry so much about getting them in the shot

2.) Have energy in all of your body. Now this doesn’t mean you have to be stiff or post as enthusiastically as I do, but be sure not to look limp or disinterested unless that is important to the concept of your photoshoot

3.) Play music that suits your mood and your outfit! I find taking self portraits in silence to be completely unbearable and it’s a lot harder for me to be creative

4.) Experiment with your poses, there will be some that don’t work but just don’t post those ones

5.) Take a test shot before you begin, use that photo to double check that your makeup shows correctly and isn’t smudged and that your clothes are sitting correctly! I have forgotten to do this in the past and would have saved myself hours of editing.
