The Blue Rose

Originally written spring 2011

It is raining

In a garden full of roses

A few kisses by Fire

A few blushing Pink

A few sunlit yellow

One pure white

One just barely blooming

Turning out to be a beautiful hue.

The impossible shade of bright blue

A gardener comes

With his tools wet by the rain

He slips

And Nips the Blue Rose

Kills

The Blue Rose

He slips further

His hand cut by the thorns

His blood sprays the ground

Where the White Rose lay

From the blood comes

The WildFlower.

Burnout

I finally got a new job, yay! I literally can’t remember if I mentioned it in a prior post or not and I am too lazy at the moment to go back and look at it. Recently I have been reflecting a lot on burnout, like my chronic case of burnout more specifically. I graduated from college in the 2020 pandemic and have been jumping from a high-stress job to a high-stress job since then. Fingers crossed I finally found a winner for more than just a year or two. So far so good and I have a much lighter mental load. With that lighter mental load, I got to reflect on how well I have been doing overall honestly with my mental health. It’s come up on my YouTube channel before some of my challenges in that department. I more recently have chosen to be somewhat more private with the details of my situation but I do still think general conversations on mental health can be helpful too. I also feel generally more comfortable discussing this in blog format.

I realized that I was finally eating better, changing my work situation, keeping my home neater, (just went through a massive declutter I want to write about soon), and overall just doing better. However, I was still exhausted. I realized that I had been so busy first surviving, and then learning how to function, that I am finally ready to take some time to actively recover from years of chronic stress. One problem though is that I don’t exactly know how to do that. A lot of hobbies of mine got put on hold to focus on learning how to function and now that I am returning to them, I am definitely a happier and healthier person than I was a year ago, I am just terrified of losing “momentum” so to speak.

Fortunately, one of my new/old hobbies is being obsessed with the library in all its forms again. I love listening to audiobooks from the library and it turns out there really is a book for everything. I listened to books on decluttering, stress management, and maintaining friendships. A lot of these had these key phrases in them that really stuck with me. For example what finally let me truly declutter was the idea “Making a landfill in your home is no more environmentally friendly than doing it in the dumpster” There was a lot of old craft supplies and ruined fabrics that just had to go. The book that sparked me writing this post was Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle and the idea of a stress cycle is just absolutely revolutionary to me. It’s the idea that dealing with your stressors (thing that is making you stressed) and your stress (the physiological response) are two entirely separate items on your agenda to deal with things like chronic burnout. I have very much not been doing the second thing. Lots of recent research has mentioned that stress and trauma live in our bodies but the concept that you have to actually attend to that body and signal to your body that you are safe now is a completely revolutionary concept to me. Maybe this was common sense to other people but often times it feels like I missed the boat on a lot of regulation things like this.

I’m looking forward to taking this information and trying to build more time into my life to actually release the stress that has all built up in my body and to see what difference it makes. I’m hoping it will eventually allow me to both take care of myself and participate in the hobbies I love consistently.

How did I do on my 2022 Resolutions?

It’s the end of the year and I’m looking back on what my resolutions were! Like most people, I actually forgot some of them so let’s see what progress I have made!

1.) Post more consistently to my socials without sacrificing my health

I actually moved towards this goal quite a bit! I don’t think that I did it consistently through the year but I have improved my abilities quite a bit and have been using the mantra of consistency over intensity for the past few months and I think it has been serving me well

2.) Finish repairing and altering my lolita fashion wardrobe

I was so close! I have just two projects that I need to finish, altering my FanplusFriend Tardis Skirt and turning my Love Nadia Skirt into a tote bag

3.) Improve my financial literacy

I have made leaps and bounds on this one! I actually think I achieved this goal and have made strides in paying down my debts and choosing methods that work well for me. I have been on time with all of my bills, have a separate rainy day and emergency fund going as well as learning more about retirement.

4.) Pay off my credit card debt

This was an entirely unrealistic goal, but I did pay it down aggressively. I paid down 3,000$ of my credit which is nothing to sneeze at. I have since moved my attention over to a snowball method with all of my debt since I don’t anticipate my income increasing too much anytime soon. I will keep working on lowering that balance.

6.) Work on improving my physical health

I spent much of 2022 getting to know my body and trying and restarting and doing all sorts of things to see what works for me. In the past 3 months I think I finally developed a system that works for me. I try to work out at least 150 minutes a week and eat 4-5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. I try to get enough sleep. Honestly the USDA guidelines work really well. I really struggled coming to terms with that since literally everything else is more exciting but hey I really love the extra energy I have and it’s pretty easy to do. It just requires planning.

7.) Use a physical planner again

I didn’t really do this quite frankly. The only thing I have are dry erase calendar habit trackers in my Youtube studio. I need to have a pretty planner for me to want to use it. I plan on getting the Blogilates planner for 2023 as I used one in 2020 and loved it.

Thank you guys for a wonderful year! Goodbye 2022, Hello 2023!

Long Time No See!!

Getting boba at a local shop

I have been so busy lately! I had been working a job that was slowly becoming miserable to work at and have put most of my energy and time into getting a new job which I really like so far! I’ve had way more energy for life lately and can’t wait to share that with all of you!

I am also starting to plan my wedding! My husband and I went to the courthouse already since we wanted the financial benefits and we were ready we just need time to save for the big party! I don’t plan on making content around that since I want that to be special. However I may mention it from time to time.

A delicious treat from a local cafe I tried recently

I’ve also recommitted to practicing my guitar and learning Japanese I’m hoping to do some song covers on my YouTube channel in a few months from now. I really missed traditional blogging. It was what really got me into Lolita fashion in the first place and I want to keep up contributing to that part of the community. I can’t wait to share more posts with you this month!

2022 New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year Everyone!! I hope everyone had the best year that they could. It has been a strange and wild ride but overall I had a good year. I now have a job at a company that I love, I have my beautiful apartment my fiance and my amazing animals. I’m hoping next year will be a year of stability for me. On reflecting on this past year, here are my new year’s resolutions!! I kept them flexible so they would be more compatible with my adhd brain.

1.) Post more consistently to my socials without sacrificing my health

I really want to grow my content and my social media, I really love being a content creator and want to do bigger and better things, one thing I really struggle with is over or under committing to my content. So going into this year I plan on having a flexible content strategy that will keep me posting but also keep me from burning out or posting too much.

2.) Finish repairing and altering my lolita fashion wardrobe

My style pile is looming in my craft room, there are a lot of nostalgic wardrobe pieces in there so I’m hoping that will motivate me to keep going on that project

3.) Improve my financial literacy

I just learned how to balance a checkbook from my future mother in law and it has been life-changing! I also started taking personal finance courses and if I had known that credit cards compound daily I may have been more careful in college with it.

4.) Pay off my credit card debt

Speaking of that daily compounding interest, I want to pay my credit card off this year. I got myself into deep trouble with it when I was in college and when I first moved out and was only making 15$ an hour with a one bedroom rental all by myself. It would be nice to have that balance free.

5.) Get to my two planned conventions this year

I have been wanting to go to Mermagic Con and Paradiso for two years now and I am so excited to be going this year! Everything seems to be on track for that! I plan on vlogging both of those events.

6.) Work on improving my physical health

I have been in therapy for years now and am finally happy in my ability to function in my day-to-day life. That was in crisis for a long time in my child, teenage and young adult years. I am so proud of myself for reaching the therapy goals that I had in 2021. Now that that’s settled it’s time for me to start taking care of my body. Diabetes runs in my family and I need to be aware of that, On my lilianarowena accounts you will not be seeing a lot of content on this as I am aware that it could be triggering for some people. I just wanted to include it as it is going to be a big part of my goals this year.

7.) Use a physical planner again

I am the kind of person who is just going to have to use a planner forever. I have accepted this and in 2021 I was using habitica for most of the year. It is a gameified task tracker that got me through college and served me well while it did. However, it still doesn’t have the flexibility or exact design I need to manage my chores, work tasks, social media tasks and other daily habits without being completely overwhelming. So I will be going back to bullet journaling in order to make it as flexible as possible.

Thank you guys for an awesome year! I hope you all have an amazing 2022.

Summer Moodboard!

I made a moodboard like I suggested in my lifestyle lolita tips blog post! I decided to go with images that made me think of romantic adventures and fun times with my friends! I’m very lucky to live in an area that it’s possible to start seeing people again and going out to do things. I want to live my summer to the fullest this year! I also have a lot of new interests this year I didn’t have last year like swimming and mermaiding! Water is going to be a big part of my summer this year as well as egl meetups. I am so excited.

Camping!!

I got to go camping with my fiancé last weekend! It was so much fed! I actually got to feed him out of my hand later on! I didn’t get a picture of that though, it felt like pure magic! I also got to go swimming in the lake, it was freezing but I didn’t care! It was too cold unfortunately for my cutie but he sat on the dock with me

When we were sitting on the dock some fish swam up to us! I’ve never had that happen before and it was so cool! One tried to see if I was food, it tickled a lot! I also showed my fiancé all of the cool structures the seasonals built! Since we were using my parents campsite, we had so much fun!

The ba each we were at!

How Makeup Can Change A Whole Look!

I tried egirl makeup for the first time today!! I’ve never tried it before and shockingly loved how it combined with my Lolita aesthetic! I feel like a Tsundere girl in a harem anime, I think makeup is often a very overlooked aspect of fashion in regards to egl but I think it can change the whole look

When I was first getting into Lolita fashion it was the height of OTT sweet so the most popular makeup I could find at the time was Dolly makeup! It’s still one of my go to’s to this day. I also was fond of doing more natural looks as well

It wasn’t until I recently got into Gyaru that I had considered more intense makeup looks with JFashion. It definitely made a huge difference in the way whole outfits looked and I really enjoyed the combo of cute and flirtatious that a lot of himekaji gyaru had!

Recently I’ve been really admiring the egirl aesthetic but whenever I tried the clothes I never felt like I could pull it off, so I tried out just the makeup today with clothes I already am confident in and it was an incredible feeling! I felt cute and unique and awesome! I highly recommend experimenting with new makeup styles if you want to switch up your look

Another great thing about this is it didn’t require me buying a single thing I could just use what I already had.

Life Updates & What’s in My Bag

This will be the second time I will decide to end the lifestyle Lolita challenge, I think I have learned such a rigidly structured challenge is not for me, I wanted to motivate myself to traditionally blog more but what I ended up with was complete overwhelm and ignoring this blog,

I think I will still refer to the list for prompts but use it more as a list of prompts than a list of hard and fast must blog this on this day, it’s such a fun idea! And I would love to see a blogger with more spoons regularly at their disposal try it, I don’t feel too bad ending the challenge again considering the original creator wasn’t able to complete it! I’m hoping to blog daily but on a more thing by thing I want to talk about basis, for example showing you guys my completed purse kit I made! I’m really excited about it and I don’t think I’ve ever done a what’s in my bag before.

I’ve got emergency makeup for retouches, lip balm, a decoden mirror from a comm member, hairbrush and deodorant! It’s a nice little kit to have and helps me feel put together more of the time! I’ve only had it for a week but I really enjoy just having it in my bag

I’m trying to find small ways to make my life easier recently and this has made a bigger difference than I thought it would
